Soybean Meal

Soybean meal is used in food and animal feeds, principally as a protein supplement.

Soybean meal is a valuable ingredient used in various industries. Here are some typical applications:

  1. Animal Feed: Soybean meal is a primary protein source in livestock and poultry feed formulations due to its high-quality protein content and amino acid profile. It’s commonly used in diets for poultry, swine, cattle, aquaculture, and other livestock species.
  2. Pet Food: It’s utilised in the production of pet foods, providing essential nutrients for dogs, cats, and other companion animals.
  3. Aquafeed: Soybean meal is incorporated into aquafeed formulations for fish and shrimp farming, serving as a cost-effective and sustainable protein source.
  4. Food Industry: Soybean meal is used in human food products, primarily as a protein ingredient in processed foods like meat substitutes, vegetarian products, baked goods, and cereals.
  5. Industrial Applications: Soybean meal can be utilised in industrial applications, such as adhesives, resins, and biodegradable plastics.
  6. Fertiliser: Soybean meal is sometimes used as an organic fertiliser due to its nitrogen content and ability to improve soil fertility.
  7. Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics: Soybean meal extracts are utilised in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics for their potential health and skincare benefits, such as moisturising properties and antioxidant effects.

These applications highlight the versatility and importance of soybean meal in various sectors, ranging from animal nutrition to human food production and beyond.

  • Protein: 46.5% min (1 – 1 allowance)
  • FFA: 2% max (Free Fatty Acids)
  • Fiber: 4.5% max
  • Urease: 0.05 – 0.15

Soybean meal is an entirely natural product derived from processed, de-hulled soybeans. It boasts a high protein content, exhibiting a creamy yellow granular texture with fine particles.

Soybean Oil

Soybean oil is primarily used in industrial applications and, if refined, in consumer goods.

Crude degummed soybean oil (CDSBO) finds applications in various industries due to its versatility and properties. Here are some typical applications:

  1. Food Industry:
    • Edible Oil Production: CDSBO serves as a precursor to refined soybean oil, which is widely used in cooking, frying, and as a salad dressing base.
    • Food Processing: It’s utilised as an ingredient in processed foods like margarine, shortening, mayonnaise, salad dressings, and sauces.
  2. Biofuel Production:
    • CDSBO can be converted into biodiesel through transesterification processes. Biodiesel derived from soybean oil can be used as a renewable alternative to diesel fuel.
  3. Industrial Applications:
    • Lubricants and Greases: It serves as a base for industrial lubricants and greases due to its lubricating properties.
    • Paints and Coatings: CDSBO can be used in the production of paints, coatings, and inks as a natural alternative to petrochemical-based oils.
  4. Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics:
    • CDSBO is utilised in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries for manufacturing various products such as soaps, shampoos, creams, and lotions due to its emollient and moisturising properties.
  5. Animal Feed:
    • It can be used as an ingredient in animal feed formulations due to its high energy content and nutritional value.
  6. Chemical Industry:
    • CDSBO is utilised as a raw material for the production of various chemicals, including surfactants, plasticisers, and solvents.
  7. Industrial Cleaning Products:
    • CDSBO-based surfactants can be used in the formulation of industrial cleaning products due to their biodegradability and low toxicity.
  • FFA: 1% max (Free Fatty Acids)
  • Unsaponifiable Matter: 1.5% max
  • Impurities: 0.1% max
  • Sediment: 0.1% max
  • Moisture: 0.2% max
  • Colour: (1* cell) not darker than 50 yellow and 5 red
  • The product is free from bad smell.

Crude Degummed Soybean Oil is a completely natural product derived from cleaned, de-hulled soybeans. It is notably high in healthy fats.

Soybean Hulls

Soybean hulls are commonly used as a fibre-rich ingredient in animal feed formulations.

Soybean hulls, a byproduct of soybean processing, have various applications:

  1. Animal Feed: They are used as a high-fibre ingredient in livestock and poultry feed to improve digestion and reduce costs.
  2. Biofuels: Soybean hulls can be converted into biofuels, contributing to renewable energy sources.
  3. Biodegradable Products: Due to their fibrous nature, they can be used in manufacturing biodegradable products such as packaging materials or mulch.

These applications showcase the versatility and sustainability of soybean hulls across different industries.

  • Moisture: 8.21%
  • Crude Protein: 13.59%
  • Crude Fat: 2.96%
  • Crude Fibre: 35.80%
  • The product is free from bad smell.

Soybean hulls can be utilised beyond just animal feed. One interesting application is in bioremediation. Due to their high lignin content, soybean hulls can be used to absorb heavy metals and other pollutants from contaminated soil or water. This eco-friendly method helps to clean up environmental pollutants while utilising a natural agricultural byproduct.
